This summer I spent my summer vacation Norway and had the opportunity to visit Bergen, on the Norwegian Vest Coast. As a child I visited the city several times visiting family during summer and winter vacations. I still carry with me a lot of good memories from the city that I consider the most beautiful in Norway. It is surrounded by 7 mountains, while embracing the harbour. It holds such a unique combination of history and modern city life, urban energy and impressive nature. This beautiful city is undoubtedly worth a visit.
This time I brought my camera with me and was able to capture some of my impressions.

Autumn morning

This week we have had some beautiful days, sunny and clear. They say this has been one of the driest autumns ever recorded in Copenhagen.

As usual I had my camera in my bag going to work on Wednesday When I got to the old citadel Kastellet, I had to take the camera out. It was a beautiful sunrise. Noticeable was also tracks left behind by the early morning traffic at Copenhagen Airport Kastrup. They sky reminded me of a field criss-crossed by ski tracks, a familiar sight in my native Norway.

I managed to capture some of these impressions in the following pictures.

Evening sky over Copenhagen

After a beautiful autumn day we experienced a breathtaking sunset. From a rooftop I was able to capture this image. It shows the silhouette of Frederik’s Church (the Marble Church) against a sky on fire.

Swans in Copenhagen

This weekend I walked around in the city and enjoyed the nice autumn weather we. In one of the lakes in the centre of Copenhagen, I came across some swans. I was out to try one of my friend’s zoom lens. AF-S VR-NIKKOR 70-200mm 1:2.8G. It is a great leans. It is really interesting how objects you have shot many times before looks totally different when you view it through a different lens. It truly gives you a new perspective.

This allowed me to draw the subject closer and I saw the opportunity to also make a more daring crop on some of the pictures. I am pretty happy with the result.

Photo-summer

It has been a productive summer where I have shot close to 10.000 pictures, ranging from big events to normal life. The events include The British Grand Prix in Formula 1 at Silverstone and the 2011 UCI Road Race World Championship here in my home town Copenhagen, Denmark. This year I have also made it a habit to carry the camera with me when I go to work. This way I have been able to capture glimpse of daily life in Copenhagen.

I was also fortunate enough to spend some time in my native country Norway were I had a beautiful week in Bergen, on the Norwegian west coast. The nature surrounding the city in breathtaking and provide you unlimited photo opportunities. The city itself, with a combination of old and new architecture provides you with such a wide range of motives that only your own imagination and creativity set the limits.

Over the last few months I have also learned to appreciate Photoshop Elements ® and have let me inspire by its functionality. One of the pleasant discoveries I have made was Photoshop Elements® Black and White capabilities. Working with the black and white format has totally changed the pictures.

In the coming weeks I hope to be able to share with you some of the pictures I have worked on this year.

The following are some examples of what will follow.

03 July 2011

Its a wet wet day

Yesterday we had the heaviest downpour in Copenhagen in 30 years according to the Danish news. It flooded the city streets and basements when we got 130 mm in less than 2 hours. Today we had another shower, but far from as strong as yesterday.

The showers we had the last couple of days allowed me to play with my camera trying to capture the rain itself.

Sprint and and the birth of a new generation.

Walk around in the parks of Copenhagen these days and you can not avoid to notice the spring's biggest miracle, the birth of a generation. You see the new families everywhere, enjoying the sun and each other's company.
