The temperature has kept changing the last few days, from cold to mild and back to cold. This has turned out to be ideal for growing icicles. You can see how they become bigger day by day. They may look impressive, hanging from the rooftops high above the street, capturing rays of sunlight. They also impose danger, danger to the casual pedestrian walking the streets, mindless of the "daggers of ice" raised above their heads.
Today's picture is showing some of these icy daggers. It was originally a colour photo that I converted to black & white and applied a 'grainy' texture.

The winter is definitely here
The winter has arrived in Denmark. The last week has been one of both beautiful winter moments as well as of winter chaos. Many have felt it in their daily life, cancelled public transportation, traffic jams, police recommending that people stay home unless there are emergencies, one meter of snow, home guard assisting ambulances getting through the snow, people enjoying cross country skiing in prepared tracks, happy children playing in the snow, beautiful snow covered fields lightened up by a low hanging winter sun. With temperatures as low as minus 15 during the night and just above 0 during the day, ice has started to build. The ice is building everywhere, but most noticeably hanging of the buildings. The danger of them falling down and injuring people, has caused building owners to close parts of the sidewalks and people are walking around looking out for falling ice. These are but some of the experiences we have had in Denmark this week.
I think today's pictures are a good illustration of the current weather. I was out walking along the waterfront when I spotted these frozen chains.

Winter is getting closer - it makes me think of summer.
This week we had the season's first snow in here Copenhagen. Friday morning, on my way to work, I passed cars with a thin cover of snow and ice. Winter is just around the corner. This mad me think of summer and the photos I have shot. Especially, my summer vacation in Norway. I spend two weeks in southern Norway. Most of the time the weather was perfect and I was able to capture a lot of good summer images. Among them, is a series of pictures of butterflies and insects.
Today's picture is one of these, from my mother's garden.

St. Albans Church, Copenhagen
The picture I have found for today is of St. Alban's Church, also referred to as the English Church here in Copenhagen. It is designed by Arthur Blomfield and was built from 1885 to 1887. It is built to resemble a traditional English parish church. It is located just outside Kastellet, the old citadel. In the picture the church's reflection can be seen in the moat around the citadel.

Running water and time...
Not so long ago a friend introduced me to the effect it gives using a long exposure when taking pictures of running water. I have since tried it myself when I have had the opportunity. Today's photo is of a waterfall on the island Bornholm. It is located in a small forest. This reduces the sun light and therefore makes it easier to extend the exposure time without 'burning out' parts of the picture. I used a tripod and exposure time of 10 sec. I think the result is OK.

Photoshop
This year I was introduced to the world of Photoshop. Actually it is Photoshop Elements. I have started to experiment with some of the functionality and features it offers. So far I have found it almost overwhelming, but still exciting at the same time. It really opens up a whole new universe of possibilities, and allows a new level of creativity.
On October 30th I put a Halloween picture on my blog. The dragons in the picture are actually street lamps that can be found in Copenhagen. Today's photo is the original picture that I used to create my Halloween picture.
This is fun.....

Ready for Halloween
On my recent trip to Bornholm I captured this image. It had been a long day. We had been out walking since early morning and was on our way back to our house when we came across this house. The light was fading fast. The twilight, the candles in the windows and the two Jack-O'-Lanterns created a special mood that to some extent can be felt through this picture.

Seagulls
After I created the blog earlier this evening, I started going through some of the photos I have shot this summer. It has been fun to look through them again and selecting pictures for the site. I found these pictures of some seagulls that I shot on the beach outside Zandvoort in the Netherlands.

Hello world! .... and getting ready for Halloween
I am now officially a blogger!
This is my first post on this site. It is a picture I shot when recently visiting the Danish island Bornholm during the autumn vacation. In Gudhjem (home of Gods) they were getting ready for Halloween. One of the activities they had in the main square was carving Jack-O lanterns. Here is a picture of some of the pumpkins awaiting 'treatment'.
